Pilots tell flight stories as a way to share knowledge from the trips with other pilots. Sometimes critical safety information can be learned from hearing the flight story of another pilot, preventing you from getting yourself into trouble.
In spring of 2024, SCFC member Richard Parry embarked on a cross-country flight from San Carlos to Taos, New Mexico, hoping to include overflights of Lake Tahoe, Bryce Canyon in Utah, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. A trip like this takes advance planning and included a number of safety considerations that get evaluated both ahead of time and throughout the flight. Weather is always a factor to consider and this trip proved that point with some required deviations from the plan due to rain and storms.
We have invited Richard to share the story of the flight planning, the challenges he faced on the flight, necessary changes to the itinerary, and the observations he made about this flight and other long cross-country flight. Join us on Wednesday, November 23rd as he recaps this trip and shares photos, route diagrams, and weather reports from the flight.
If you are hoping to see Taos from the air, or just preparing for your own long cross-country adventure, you’ll want to hear this flight story.
