Come join us on a multi day trip through Arizona! This next Fly Out Group (FOG) will span through all the major sites Arizona has to offer from the Grand Canyon to the nation’s largest private aviation museum collection.
We will depart April 25. We will start from the North at the Flagstaff Pulliam (KFLG) airport, which can be reached either through Nevada or Southern California. We can spend the night in the town of Flagstaff which is a 10-15 minute drive from the airport. On the 26th, we can fly the Grand Canyon aerial tour in the Special Flight Rule Area (SFRA).
Following the Grand Canyon tour, we can continue south for Sedona Airport (KSEZ). Sedona is another spectacular Arizona canyon city with an iconic airport sitting on top of a mesa. The airport hosts the Mesa Grill restaurant which would be a great place to eat lunch before continuing further south towards Tucson.
In the evening of the 26th, we can land at Tucson International Airport (KTUS) and spend the night. The next day on the 27th, we can visit the Pima Air and Space Museum. This museum is the largest non-government funded museum in the nation. It houses aircraft from prior to the second World War through the Cold War from the US and foreign militaries along with numerous civilian aircraft.
The main part of the trip could end on April 28th. The trip back to San Carlos could be made via Southern California with a fuel stop in Riverside. Those willing to stay an extra couple days in Tucson have a few more options. The Titan missile museum is located a 30 minute drive south of KTUS. The museum is a decommissioned nuclear missile silo that has been preserved as a museum complete with the missile. An additional optional stop would be Bisbee municipal airport (P04). The airport is 3 miles from a historic copper mining town filled with restaurants, hotels and art galleries.
