2021 brings in a new year and FOG would like to explore a new airport every month. If you have been to our choice, investigate another and fill us in.
This month, Porterville Municipal Airport (KPTV) is our choice. The airport was opened in September 1942 as Porterville Army Airfield and was used by the United States Army Air Forces Fourth Air Force as a training base during World War II. Located between Fresno and Bakersfield, it’s a great place to stop and refuel on a flight between the Bay Area and the Southwest. The proximity to the Sierra Nevada mountains is also a sight to see, as descending to Porterville from altitude affords pilots a great view of the mountains on a clear day. For instrument pilots or students, Porterville has a handful of approaches to practice, as well.
It’s an easy place to land and fuel and the gas is inexpensive. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. We think you’ll use it in the future.
