SUMMARY:Ground School Refresher: Airport Signs and Markings
DESCRIPTION:Pop quiz: What is the new ICAO standard marking for a taxiway approaching a runway? What markings differ between a blast pad and a displaced threshold and what does that indicate to pilots \nIf it has been awhile since you sat through ground school\, you may want to join us for a refresher on Airport Signs and Markings. In this safety seminar\, we will review the various colors and markings and symbols used on taxiways\, runways\, parking areas\, and areas off-limits to aircraft. Most pilots have at least an operational knowledge of their favorite airports\, but travel to new airports can sometimes be jarring. Find out what has changed recently in ICAO standards so that you operate safely at your next new airport. Then look for the changes when they happen at your own airport. You will leave the seminar with a renewed understanding\, and probably a few memory aids to take with your on your next flight. \nThis safety seminar is open to current and aspiring Private Pilots\, and will be of particular interest to student pilots and those who are preparing for a flight review.

SUMMARY:Mid-Air Collision Avoidance and NUQ Operations
DESCRIPTION:With airspace only getting busier\, more aircraft are flying closer to each other every day. We as pilots need to be vigilant about other traffic around us at all times\, as it’s crucial for our own safety. \nSan Carlos Flight Center is pleased to invite Lt. Col Chris Nance to speak with the pilot community about how all pilots can improve their alertness while flying. The Mid-Air Collision Avoidance Program is an outreach program to foster relationships with local aviators to educate and inform the local community about military operations and training to ensure a safe operating airspace. During this seminar\, Lt. Chris will explain about the different military operations that operate around NUQ\, where they operate\, and how VFR pilots can remain safely away from military operations. \nDon’t miss out on this opportunity to improve the safety of you\, and your passengers while flying on your next journey. There will also be a Q&A after the seminar regarding any military operations or collision avoidance.

SUMMARY:Radio Comm 4: Bravo and Charlie Airspace
DESCRIPTION:Pilots new to the SF Bay area sometimes feel uncomfortable communicating with controllers in busier Class B and C airports. Let’s address that. Let’s talk about radio communications and help each other overcome fears\, operate more safely\, and smooth the work of Tower and Approach Controllers. \nIn this seminar\, San Carlos Flight Center continues our radio communications series\, this time focusing on general aviation operations at Class Bravo and Charlie airports. SFO\, OAK\, and SJC come with a whole new set of challenges for GA pilots; increased traffic loads operating in the airspace\, more frequency congestion\, different entrance requirements\, and a whole lot more. This seminar can help you to become a more effective communicator within class B and C airspace\, and prove to the controllers that you got it under control. \nYou surely won’t want to miss this seminar if you have ever felt uneasy operating within Class B or C airspace. This seminar is guaranteed to make sure that all pilots will feel safer on their next flight into these airports\, don’t miss out. \nDan Dyer is a flight instructor and Chief Pilot of San Carlos Flight Center.
