Or what happens when the air intake filter becomes blocked? Or what are the purposes of those tubes coming out of the bottom of the engine? \nAre you ready to take your airplane systems knowledge to the next step? San Carlos Flight Center invites A&P Charles Rudolf for a unique perspective on airplane engines and systems. SUMMARY:What Pilots Need to Know About Drones: Regulations\, Safety\, and Coexistence
DESCRIPTION:They are out there! No\, not UFOs\, but drones. Drones are and will continue to be sharing the same airspace with manned aircraft. Having a good understanding of where pilots may encounter drones will prove valuable. \nSan Carlos invites Travis Michels\, Flight Test Engineer at Skydio\, to share the current state of drone operations and what the rapidly evolving future will look like. He will detail where drones can fly under the various FAA regulations and more importantly how pilots can stay safe. He will also review a few drone/aircraft accidents. \nFace it\, the industry is evolving rapidly in this area and pilots need to keep informed. All pilots in the Bay Area will benefit from an insider view of the current state and future of drone operations. \nTravis Michels learned to fly in Colorado at a young age taking the checkride as soon as he turned 17. For fun\, Travis started flying drones in High School and in college he helped found the Colorado State University Drone Center. He spent 4 years there conducting various research projects and teaching drone courses. After graduating\, Travis joined Amazon’s Drone Delivery program as a flight operator. Interpreting the meaning of what is being said on the radio is not easy. The language seems terse and there is often a pressure to not mess up when it is your turn to talk. \nSCFC has prided itself on effective radio communication and has presented many safety seminars on radio communications. In this seminar\, we will listen and decipher a days worth of radio communication at San Carlos. We will highlight common as well as uncommon messages to bring a deeper understanding of radio communication to the pilot community. \nIf you have been looking for opportunities to improve your radio pedigree/IQ\, this is a seminar that you will want to attend. \nCapt. Bennett Taber is a check airman and training captain with over 20 years and 16\,000 hours of air charter experience throughout the western United States. His first 500 hours of flying were conducted in Alaska. DESCRIPTION:On May 23\, make the quick hop over the Santa Cruz Mountains to Half Moon Bay for dinner. The flight is quick from points around the Bay Area but is much faster and less stressful than navigating the traffic on Highway 92. This is a perfect flight to take friends and family on\, as it affords stunning views of the local coastline\, beaches\, and mountains in such a short flight. \nAfter landing\, taxi to the small ramp on the southeast side of the airport (located southeast of the taxiway that takes you to Runway 30). Secure your aircraft\, and we’ll walk through the gate to meet at Mezza Luna at 7 PM\, one of the best restaurants in the town. DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about what happens in the tower at an airport? Would you like to increase your knowledge of how air traffic is managed at the San Carlos airport? \nThe KSQL Air Traffic Manager has offered to host small groups of pilots to meet the tower controllers and take a tour of the San Carlos tower. During the tour you will get to see firsthand how the tower controllers update the ATIS\, keep track of planes arriving and departing\, as well as use radar to help manage the flow of traffic around San Carlos class Delta airspace. \nThe tours are approximately 20-25 minutes in length. Registration is required. Would you like to increase your knowledge of how air traffic is managed at the San Carlos airport? \nThe KSQL Air Traffic Manager has offered to host small groups of pilots to meet the tower controllers and take a tour of the San Carlos tower. During the tour you will get to see firsthand how the tower controllers update the ATIS\, keep track of planes arriving and departing\, as well as use radar to help manage the flow of traffic around San Carlos class Delta airspace. \nThe tours are approximately 20-25 minutes in length. Registration is required. US Citizenship is required due to FAA restriction. \nAbout San Carlos Flight Center: \nSan Carlos Flight Center (SCFC) is the SF Bay Area’s most dynamic flying club\, committed to building general aviation through safety\, community\, and adventure. DESCRIPTION:Want delicious food and some cross-country time? Join FOG on May 25 as we head north to Willows (WLW)\, where we’ll break for lunch at Nancy’s Airport Cafe. \nWillows can be found in the northwest side of the Central Valley\, and is located between Nut Tree and Redding. Flying in the Spring time will hopefully present a green and colorful landscape\, as many of the surrounding hills will be various shades of green from the winter rains. On a clear day\, you may even be able to get a glimpse of the towering Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen on the descent! \nNancy’s Airport Cafe is a small airport diner\, but is known for its all-day breakfast\, American fare\, and best of all\, their pies! Make sure to grab a slice before heading home\, as they’re known for keeping pilots coming back for more. To access the restaurant\, please park on the ramp alongside the hangers and self-serve fuel depot\, and walk through the gate. \nAs always\, if you’re interested in attending\, please let us know by signing up below.

Are you looking to get an understanding of ways to conduct a weather briefing? \nIf you are a student pilot or recent pilot trying to better understand options for accessing weather for a flight then join us for this workshop to learn more about weather briefings. We will use a cross-country flight scenario and walk through the process of gathering relevant weather for a flight. We will show you how to get aviation weather information from www.aviationweather.gov\, ForeFlight\, 1800wxbrief.com and by speaking to a flight service station weather briefer. \nIf you want to better understand how all these sources of weather fit in a briefing\, join us for this interactive session. \nHerb Patten is the Chief Pilot at the San Carlos Flight Center\, a CFI and an FAA certificated advanced and instrument ground instructor who teaches private pilot ground school at San Carlos Flight Center.  He is a commercial pilot with an instrument rating\, has flown over 2\,500 hours in more than 130 different California airports.  He is the current chairman of the Upwind Foundation\, famous for its Upwind Summer Scholarship Program. SUMMARY:5-Day Colorado Mountain Training Trip
DESCRIPTION:Each year an armada of 182s departs the Bay Area bound for a fun and amazing mountain flying adventure! This year we head back to Colorado for some awesome Rocky Mountain flying. Day one destinate is Bryce Canyon so that we can arrive early and explore this amazing National Park. Day two we journey into the heart of the Rockies for a two-night stay in Eagle\, Colorado\, our home base for mountain flying. Eagle is situated among the best mountain passes and 40 NM Northwest of the famous Leadville Airport\, North America’s highest airport at 9927′. Day Four we overfly the Grand Canyon en route to Sedona. The trip is a great opportunity to master advanced avionics\, get an airplane-specific checkout and earn your high-performance endorsement. Each plane will have 1 CFI and 2 pilots on board. With two pilots per CFI and aircraft\, the daily rate is halved between you and whomever you fly with to get mountain flying experience. \nIt promises to be an unforgettable flying adventure with plenty of room for ground-based fun as well. \n \nThe trip is billed by SCFC at aircraft Hobbs time and instructor daily rate. SUMMARY:Full Moon Flyers and Upwind Dinner
DESCRIPTION:FOG’s biggest event of the year is back! \nOn the evening of Sunday July 21\, join us at the Stockton Airport (SCK) to continue our yearly tradition of celebrating the Upwind Class of 2024 with a fly-out dinner event.  We invite all pilots to showcase the fantastic General Aviation community to high-school students and their families. Please park around 6:30 PM at transient parking located just south of the airline terminal. If confused of its location\, ask for progressive taxi or look for San Carlos Flight Center aircraft parked on the ramp. Exit through the pedestrian gate and plan to meet up no later than 7:00 PM at Top Flight Grill and Catering inside the passenger terminal. Afterward\, enjoy the twilight flight home. The restaurant has asked for each table to pay as a group instead of individual checks\, please plan accordingly. \nUpwind students will fly with their instructors\, but FOG pilots who are able to will often allow the students’ families to ride along in their aircraft. This is a great way to introduce the families to the aviation community and the incredible people behind it. \nThis is FOG’s most popular event. Last year\, we set the record for the largest FOG event ever. Can we top it this time? \nDue to the popularity of this event and the coordination of rides\, please make sure to RSVP and book your plane early! Also\, when you register\, please let us know where you are departing from and if you are able to accept passengers. DESCRIPTION:A&P Charles Rudolf will share a unique perspective on airplane engines and systems\, including details of the fuel\, ignition\, induction and more in this in-person workshop. \nAs a pilot\, you learn about airplane engines and systems from the Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge. That information is supplemented by details from your specific Airplane Flight Manual. So what more do you need to know? You crank the starter and everything works. But how does it work and how do the various systems such as the fuel\, induction\, and ignition work together to keep the engine flying? Ever wonder how the fuel flows from the tank to the cylinders? Or what happens when the air intake filter becomes blocked? Or what are the purposes of those tubes coming out of the bottom of the engine? \nAre you ready to take your airplane systems knowledge to the next step? San Carlos Flight Center invites A&P Charles Rudolf for a unique perspective on airplane engines and systems. In this in-person seminar\, you will learn the details of the fuel\, ignition\, induction and more. \nThis in-person seminar will be conducted using a Cessna 172 with the engine cowling removed so you can get an up-close appreciation of the components of a typical\, small single-engine airplane. Space is limited so don’t delay in signing up for this unique experience. You will walk away with a new depth of knowledge that most pilots don’t have.

Come join us for dinner at Seabrisa’s Eatery in Hollister (CVH) on August 19th at 7 PM. \nOn the way down\, soak in the gorgeous sunset over the coastal mountains before descending into Hollister Airport. Make sure to remain clear of the San Jose final approach course\, and consider talking to NorCal Approach to have an extra set of eyes looking out for you. Park in transient parking\, and then walk across the street to the local airport restaurant – Seabrisa’s Eatery! A local favorite for many pilots in the area\, they’re known for their unique flavors and vegetables grown from many of the local farms. \nAfter dinner\, Hollister is a great place to work on night landings or fly to San Jose (SJC) to complete your night requirements there. With big runways\, it’s easy to make the landings to a stop-and-go\, and you’ll enjoy the challenge of flying alongside jet traffic. \nEveryone is welcome to join us\, so please RSVP below and we’ll see you at the event.

Well\, that is exactly what the IMC Club provides. \nJoin the local EAA Chapter 20 IMC Club meeting to review a scenario and share in the discussions with fellow pilots. Aviator’s serves a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options offered at reasonable prices. They are a great aviation themed restaurant with seating that offers great views of the ramp! \nAt 70 NM away\, SAC is a chance for student pilots or commercial pilot applicants to gain some valuable cross country time. As always\, even student pilots can join us with your CFI! If you are an instrument student\, SAC is great to get some practice in with plenty of nearby airports offering a variety of different approaches. \nMake sure you RSVP so we can keep an accurate headcount! DESCRIPTION:This month join Full Moon Flyers in Vacaville as we fly up to Nut Tree Airport on September 16! At just over 50 NM\, Nut Tree makes for an easy cross country destination. This is a great opportunity for students or pilots looking to gain valuable night experience. The airport is lit as night and you can follow the well lit I-80 back towards Oakland for an easy flight back! \nOnce we land in Nut Tree\, we will be dining at Fenton’s Restaurant and Creamery. Known for their ice cream\, Fenton’s also offers a wide variety of sandwiches\, burgers\, and salads at reasonable prices. Don’t forget the ice cream!  \nOnce you land in VCB\, secure your aircraft on the transient parking ramp. The walk is about 5-10 minutes to the restaurant depending on your walking speed. We will meet at Fenton’s by 7PM.  Make sure you RSVP so we have an accurate headcount! We’ll see you there!
