SUMMARY:The Two Systems I Had to Master to Become a Corporate Pilot: Aircraft Pressurization and Retractable Landing Gear
DESCRIPTION:Airplanes come in all shapes and sizes. As you advance in your abilities\, you step up to faster\, bigger airplanes. Along with increased payload and speed comes new systems. Two systems that are new on this journey are Pressurization and Retractable Landing Gear Systems. \nCommercial pilot Brandan Dadoun returns to share how his knowledge of pressurization and landing gear systems was enhanced with experience in flying airplanes that actually depend on these critical systems. Brandan received his commercial rating in 2022 but since that time he has flown several advanced airplanes. He is going to shed light on pressurization and landing gear systems and take it from book knowledge to practical experience. \nWhile not every pilot may operate this equipment\, it can still be fascinating to understand its inner-workings and applicability on your next commercial flight. Or for those pursuing a commercial rating\, the ACS requires knowledge of these advanced systems. Either way\, join us to have an understanding of these fascinating aircraft systems. \n  \nBrandan Dadoun is commercial multi-engine rated and a corporate pilot flying the King Air 350. Brandan completed all of his flight training at SCFC and has been involved in the community since 2015. He was formerly the Events Manager at SCFC where he served in his role for many years. Outside of flying and presenting\, he enjoys playing the saxophone and living an active lifestyle. \n  \nAbout San Carlos Flight Center: \n\n\n\nSan Carlos Flight Center (SCFC) is the SF Bay Area’s most dynamic flying club\, committed to building general aviation through safety\, community\, and adventure. AOPA has consistently recognized SCFC in their Best Flight School survey\, most recently in 2023 as a Distinguished Flight School for the third year in a row. \n\n\n\n\nSCFC is committed to promoting safety in general aviation through our regular safety seminars and guest speaker programs. Our seminars are free to watch when attended in person at our facility in San Carlos but live streaming and viewing recorded seminars are exclusively available to members. Click here or contact an SCFC member service rep at (650) 946-1700 for more information about online access to our web library of over 500 recorded safety seminars and live-streamed content. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis seminar will be held in person at SCFC\, attendance is free and open to all. Web Members will still be able to access our seminars online\, both live and recorded. Click here to learn more about the transition. \nInterested in watching more of our presentations? SUMMARY:Ground School Refresher: Weather Services
DESCRIPTION:Pilots live or die by the weather we fly in. We fly in a fish tank of air. Understanding whether that air is going to be like the calm\, crystal blue waters of the lagoons of Cook’s island or turbulent like an impending Tsunami is part of being a competent pilot. Although weather hasn’t changed since the FAA declared that all weather is a result of heat exchange\, weather prediction\, forecasting and weather services are constantly evolving. \nSan Carlos Flight Center invites Shelby Rebholtz\, CFI to provide a review of the different types of weather products available to pilots. Are you adept at interpreting the weather codes found on METARs and TAFs? Want to take you weather briefing to the next level? Learn about other sources of weather information to use. \nBe more weather aware on your next flight\, and join us for this safety seminar.

SUMMARY:What You Need to Know About Oakland Operations
DESCRIPTION:The Bay Area has many airports for pilots to choose from. Flying to a new airport can bring a new set of challenges and risks\, along with new procedures. For student pilots trying to branch out of their home airport\, it can be overwhelming to become familiar with local procedures. So\, what airport information is crucial to know when operating at a new airport? What specific things do you need to watch out for? What hot spots or other things may be confusing to a student or new pilot? \nSan Carlos Flight Center invites Chief Pilot Herb Patten to discuss local procedures including noise abatement\, pattern operations\, and where to find information for operating at Oakland. With four landing surfaces\, eight runways\, and two towers\, Oakland airport can seem overwhelming. Join Herb as he demistifies operations by reviewin what to expect including common ATC instructions\, key airport ground operations as well as common paths for arrival and departure. After attending this seminar\, students and new pilots will have more confidence in operating safely at Oakland.. \nWe encourage any student pilot to attend\, and pilots of higher rating to attend too. Do not miss out on this seminar to learn how to gain confidence\, operate safer\, and be on your A game when operating at KOAK. \nHerb Patten is the Chief Pilot at the San Carlos Flight Center\, a CFI and an FAA certificated advanced and instrument ground instructor who teaches private pilot ground school at San Carlos Flight Center. He is a commercial pilot with an instrument rating\, has flown over 3\,500 hours. He is the current chairman of the Upwind Foundation\, famous for its Upwind Summer Scholarship Program. In 2023\, Herb was named a Distinguished Flight Instructor by AOPA.

SUMMARY:What to Expect Taking the FAA Knowledge Test
DESCRIPTION:Pilots must pass two standardized tests to obtain a Private Pilot certificate – a test of knowledge on a computer\, and a test of flight skills in the aircraft.  In preparing for the flight skills test\, students can refer to the Airman Certification Standards document which specifies in great detail the nature of the flight skills test and the expectations of performance for each maneuver.  However\, preparing for the FAA Knowledge Test is more unstructured\, as it tests knowledge from any of several FAA publications at various depths and understanding levels.  With so many reference sources to digest\, what’s the best way to prepare for the FAA Knowledge Test? \nIn this presentation\, San Carlos Flight Center invites in 3 student pilots who recently completed the FAA Knowledge Test for Private Pilots.  We’ll find out how they prepared for the exam\, and how that impacted their success.  We will ask them what they were most surprised to find when taking the exam\, and what guidance they can share with others preparing to take the test. \n If you’re a student pilot about to take the FAA Knowledge Test and have questions about what it will entail\, we encourage you to join us for this moderated panel discussion about the process. \nAbout San Carlos Flight Center: \nSan Carlos Flight Center (SCFC) is the SF Bay Area’s most dynamic flying club\, committed to building general aviation through safety\, community\, and adventure. AOPA has consistently recognized SCFC in their Best Flight School survey\, most recently in 2023 as a Distinguished Flight School for the third year in a row. \nSCFC is committed to promoting safety in general aviation through our regular safety seminars and guest speaker programs. SUMMARY:SQL Tower Tour (2 of 2)
DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about what happens in the tower at an airport? Would you like to increase your knowledge of how air traffic is managed at the San Carlos airport? \nThe KSQL Air Traffic Manager has offered to host small groups of pilots to meet the tower controllers and take a tour of the San Carlos tower. SUMMARY:Professional Pilot Screening Quiz
DESCRIPTION:What is the most intense job interview you have ever had?  When you knew you really wanted the position but also knew that one wrong answer would get your resume deposited in the circular file.  For Commercial Pilots trying to enter the world of charter aviation and/or corporate flying\, that first job interview may seem daunting.  \nSCFC has invited Ben Taber\, Training Captain for Dreamline Aviation\, to reveal the top questions used by intake recruiters to test Commercial Pilot knowledge.  Do you have what it takes?  Are you willing to risk your aviation reputation?  But seriously\, some of you may be interested in a future career as a professional pilot.  We have invited Ben Taber\, noted aviation lecturer\, to share with us the intake questionnaire used in screening pilot applicants at his charter organization.  Passing this quiz is the first step in the hiring process.  It lets them weed out the future captains from the sky jockeys.  \nIf you are ever wondering what a professional flying interview feels like\, you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to experience it yourself.  \nCapt. Bennett Taber is a check airman and training captain with over 20 years and 16\,000 hours of air charter experience throughout the western United States. His first 500 hours of flying were conducted in Alaska. Captain Taber manages flight operations and charter sales for Dreamline Aviation in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a Dreamline Training Captain in Beech King Air aircraft \nAbout San Carlos Flight Center: \nSan Carlos Flight Center (SCFC) is the SF Bay Area’s most dynamic flying club\, committed to building general aviation through safety\, community\, and adventure.
