SUMMARY:Full Moon Flyers and Upwind Dinner
DESCRIPTION:FOG’s biggest event of the year is back! \nOn the evening of Friday July 11\, join us at the Santa Rosa Airport (STS) to continue our yearly tradition of celebrating the Upwind Class of 2025 with a fly-out dinner event.  We invite all pilots to showcase the fantastic General Aviation community to high-school students and their families. Please park around 6:30 PM at the Sonoma Jet Center FBO. If confused of its location\, ask for progressive taxi or look for San Carlos Flight Center aircraft parked on the ramp. Exit through the pedestrian gate and plan to meet up no later than 7:00 PM at Sonoma Flying Ace restaurant inside the passenger terminal. Afterward\, enjoy the twilight flight home. The restaurant has asked for each table to pay as a group instead of individual checks\, please plan accordingly. \nUpwind students will fly with their instructors\, but FOG pilots who are able to will often allow the students’ families to ride along in their aircraft. This is a great way to introduce the families to the aviation community and the incredible people behind it. \nThis is FOG’s most popular event. Last year\, we set the record for the largest FOG event ever. Can we top it this time? \nDue to the popularity of this event and the coordination of rides\, please make sure to RSVP and book your plane early! Also\, when you register\, please let us know where you are departing from and if you are able to accept passengers. For those that are willing to take parents and family members\, FOG and Upwind will be in contact with you to coordinate the logistics. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Full Moon Flyers - Harris Ranch
DESCRIPTION:A longtime favorite of pilots in California\, Harris Ranch (3O8) is known for its award-winning steak and hamburgers. Located just outside Coalinga\, the ranch features a hotel and multiple restaurants\, as well as an excellent lighted runway for pilots to fly in. On Saturday\, September 6th\, let’s fly down to the Ranch to have dinner at their signature restaurant. \nThe flight down is varied as it takes you from the urban sprawl of the Bay Area\, across the Diablo Range\, and then a leisurely route following the I-5 corridor. You’ll get a view of the Ranch from the air before descending for the thin runway that sits just to the south of the restaurant. Upon landing\, we’ll walk to the restaurant together at 7 PM\, where we will enjoy a variety of freshly cut steaks and other dining options. Harris Ranch is regarded as one of the best restaurants for pilots to fly into in Northern California. \nAfter dinner\, depart for a moonlit flight back to the Bay Area. The route is easy\, as you will follow the I-5 interstate until reaching Tracy\, and then from there\, it’s just a quick flight over the Altamont Pass into the Bay Area. If you need to reset your night currency or practice night landings for your next certificate\, Los Banos\, Tracy\, and Byron airports are excellent places to do so. \nImportant: As Harris Ranch’s restaurant is very popular\, please make sure you RSVP no later than September 1st. This will ensure we can accommodate seating for everyone. \nLike other FOG events\, please RSVP below\, and indicate if you are able to take passengers\, so we can allow student pilots and other aviation community members to participate. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:SoCal Airspace Challenge
DESCRIPTION:So you think you’re a Bravo airspace master? Do you think you can take on Los Angeles’ airspace? Well\, it’s time to find out! Join SCFC and our FlyOutGroup when we take on Class Bravo airspace in the 3-Day SoCal Airspace Challenge. Between November 7th and 9th\, we will embark on our weekend adventure that will take us through various challenging airspace transitions\, testing your skills and knowledge as a pilot.  \nThe trip begins on the afternoon of Friday\, November 7th\, where we’ll head south towards Santa Monica Airport (SMO). You’ll learn about the various ways to fly to the LA Basin\, while also seeing amazing sights along the Pacific Ocean and the San Gabriel Mountains. You might even get a glimpse of the famous Hollywood Sign! \nThe next day is all about tackling the LA airspace and operating at various airports. We’ll start with a Bravo transition through the Special Flight Rules Area\, where you can fly through Bravo without talking to ATC. After a quick stop in Torrance\, it’s off to the Airport in the Sky at Catalina for lunch. A bucket list airport for many\, you’ll learn about navigating over water and how to mitigate the risks of such a flight. After lunch\, we’ll make our way to John Wayne Airport (Orange County) to learn about operations at a major airport and how to handle the noise abatement procedures. Then it’s back to Santa Monica by way of a Bravo Transition and Burbank/Van Nuys. \nOn Sunday\, the day is yours! We recommend a lunch stop at New Cuyama\, but you can tackle any other airports on your list. We’ll plan to return to San Carlos mid-afternoon. \nThis is the time to see if you have what it takes to survive LA Airspace! All pilots are welcome – including student pilots. (This is a great opportunity to learn about cross-country flight planning and procedures!) \nHotels: \n\nPlease stay tuned for details on the hotel options for the trip.\n\nCost: \nSCFC bills the trip at the aircraft’s Hobbs time and the instructor’s rate. The rough estimated costs below are per person\, and assume two people sharing the airplane and CFI costs. \n\nCFI: 1.25 Daily Rate @ $800/day = $1\,000\nAirplane: 7 Hobbs Hours @ $200/hour = $1\,400\nHotel: 2 Nights @ $200/night = $400\nEstimated Total Cost: $2\,800 (excludes food\, incidentals\, ride-share at destinations without rental cars\, etc.)\n\nDeposit: \nThere is a $300 per person deposit to ensure interest. This deposit will be applied towards aircraft and instructor time. All pilots will be paired with an SCFC CFI in an SCFC Aircraft. The deposit is refundable if you withdraw from the trip with at least five days’ notice. \nAircraft rental and instructor time will be billed upon the completion of the trip. \nRegistration: \nIf you are interested in this trip\, contact your CFI if you’re currently training. SUMMARY:No Moon Flyers
DESCRIPTION:Every month\, our Full-Moon Flyers go on a night cross-country on the brightest night of the lunar cycle. It’s a great way to ease back into night currency. But when was the last time you did a night flight when it was really\, really dark? On a night with no moonlight? \nJoin the SCFC Flight Instructor team on Wednesday\, Nov 19th at 6:30 pm for a night flying experience designed to take pilots to local airports known for night illusions and tricky approaches. They could be hard to recognize because of limited ground lighting or because the airports themselves tend to create landing illusions on final approach. \nThis will be a unique one-of-a-kind training experience you won’t want to miss\, especially if you haven’t flown at night since you were a student pilot. Sharpen your night skills\, whether it be for meeting your night flight experience for a rating\, flying a new aircraft in the dark\, or just for proficiency. \nThe No-Moon Flyers training is space-limited\, so sign up now to reserve your spot with one of our instructors here at the Flight Center.

SUMMARY:Full Moon Flyers: Hollister
DESCRIPTION:Need to practice night flying\, or just want to gain more experience at night? Come join us for dinner at Seabrisa’s Eatery in Hollister (CVH) on Thursday\, December 4th at 7 PM. Enjoy a great meal\, and get night current before taking your family on flights over the Holidays! \nOn the way down\, soak in the gorgeous sunset over the coastal mountains before descending into Hollister Airport. Make sure to remain clear of the San Jose final approach course\, and consider talking to NorCal Approach to have an extra set of eyes looking out for you. Park in transient parking\, and then walk across the street to the local airport restaurant – Seabrisa’s Eatery! A local favorite for many pilots in the area\, they’re known for their unique flavors and vegetables grown from many of the local farms. \nAfter dinner\, Hollister is a great place to work on night landings or fly to San Jose (SJC) to complete your night requirements there. With big runways\, it’s easy to make the landings a stop-and-go\, and you’ll enjoy the challenge of flying alongside jet traffic. \nEveryone is welcome to join us\, so RSVP below and we’ll see you at the event.

SUMMARY:FOG Lunch: Half Moon Bay
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, February 6th\, make the quick hop over the Santa Cruz Mountains to Half Moon Bay for lunch\, where FOG enjoy the much-acclaimed restaurant\, Pilot Light right on the field. \nThe flight is quick from points around the Bay Area but is much faster and less stressful than navigating the traffic on Highway 92. This is a perfect flight to take friends and family on\, as it affords stunning views of the local coastline\, beaches\, and mountains in such a short flight. \nAfter landing\, taxi to the ramp on the northeast side of the airport. Secure your aircraft and we’ll walk through the gate to meet at Pilot Light at 12 PM. The restaurant is run by the same team behind the famed All Spice restaurant in San Mateo\, and revel in serving up unique brunch offerings. The restaurant has received a lot of positive praise in the few weeks after opening\, with diners noting the fun twists and fresh ingredients on classic dishes. (Learn more about the restaurant in this article). \nIt’s always hit or miss on picking a good time to visit Half Moon Bay.  Low fog and clouds may prevent VFR traffic from participating. If this is the case\, the FOG coordinator will advise those who registered if a change is needed. \nPlease RSVP below so we can inform the restaurant of our headcount. We hope to see you in Half Moon Bay on Friday\, Feb 6th!

SUMMARY:FOG - Paso Robles Air Museum and Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Want a chance to see some of the greatest aircraft to defend our country? Come join us on our Fly Out Group (FOG) trip to Paso Robles Municipal Airport (KPRB): home of the Estrella Warbirds Museum. This flight will happen on February 21. \nAt Estrella\, you will find numerous historical aircraft and military equipment spanning from World War II through the end of the Cold War. Are you more of a fan of cars and automotive history? Next door you will find the Woodland Auto Display. The car museum is included in the same ticket as the aviation museum so you will have two museums for the price of one! \nThis is a great opportunity to see some historic vehicles and build cross country time. We will first meet for brunch at Joe’s One-Niner Diner at the airport terminal at 10:30 am. After brunch\, we will taxi our planes to the other side of the airport where the museum is. The museum has space for us to park our airplanes. There will be no tie downs so make sure you bring chocks. We will have a group tour planned to begin at 12 pm for the museum. \nAirplane parking is limited and the museum requires groups to be a minimum of 10 attendees so be sure to invite back seaters for this trip! \nContact event organizer\, Noa at noa@sancarlosflight.com for more information.

SUMMARY:Full Moon Flyers and Upwind Dinner
DESCRIPTION:FOG’s biggest event of the year is back! \nOn the evening of Wednesday July 29th\, join us at the Santa Rosa Airport (STS) to continue our yearly tradition of celebrating the Upwind Class of 2026 with a fly-out dinner event.
