September 22 (Sat) 12:00pm Bird Strike Avoidance

Event Date:
Saturday, September 22, 2018 - 12:00pm

Pilots must be prepared for bird strike avoidance and damage control.  Sometimes there is not much you can do and sometimes there is. At least by having a plan and armed with a little knowledge, a pilot may really help mitigate what may turn into a life threatening situation.

The Bay Area, California coast and the central valley delta is home to many different species of birds. In other words, most of the places we fly.  If you haven’t thought a lot about it, this is a great opportunity to become acquainted with avoiding our feathered friends and prepare for your next flight.

Dave Kramer MD, an ophthalmologist for over 30 years, is an instrument rated, tailwheel, complex and high performance endorsed commercial SEL pilot as well as a basic and instrument ground instructor with an interest in weather. He has been flying since 2012, has over 1000 hours of which over 400 have been in the IFR system.  He also enjoys long cross country flying, night flying and flying in the LA area.
