October 7 (Wed) 7:00pm Mid-Air Collisions: Study, Understand, and Avoid

Event Date:
Wednesday, October 7, 2015 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Pilots study accidents.  We do it in a way that shows our commitment to learn from every tragedy, so that the same mistakes can’t happen again.  It’s why commercial aviation has such a great safety record.  Pilots study accidents to identify all the causal and related factors that contributed to the accident are understood and take steps to improved pilot training to prevent recurrence of tragedy.  Almost a third of private pilot training is training for emergencies we hope never to encounter in a lifetime of flying.

In light of some recent mid-air collision accidents, SCFC has asked Bennett Taber, ATP check airman, and training captain, to walk local pilots through the histories of mid-air collisions and what we learned about each of them.  We’ll look at pilot behaviors that increase the chances of not-avoiding another aircraft, and we’ll identify the flight times and conditions in which mid-air collisions most often occur.  Join us and plan to walk away with at least 10 things to avoid to help decrease your chance of a mid-air collision.

Bennett Taber is a check airman and training captain with over 20 years and 12,000 hours of air charter experience throughout the western United States. His first 500 hours of flying were conducted in Alaska. Mr. Taber manages flight operations and charter sales for Dreamline Aviation in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a Dreamline Training Captain in Beech King Air aircraft.
