October 29 (Sat) 12:00pm Destination Bahamas

Event Date:
Saturday, October 29, 2016 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

A cross-country flight is defined as a flight including a point of landing of more than 50 nautical miles from the point of departure.  But does a flight like that really cross the country?  A lot can happen when you pick a destination 3,000 miles away and set out in an airplane.  Weather changes, system quirks and failures, international borders, and many other things.  In a word: Adventure!

Thomas Daniel is a commercial pilot and CFI with 2,400 hours. In addition to teaching, he's been flying his Cirrus SR22 for 12 years and has 1,100 hours in type. Thomas is active in Cirrus Owners and Pilot's Association and organized COPA trips to Mexico for the last 3 years, with 20 airplanes participating each time. He's been flying the Cirrus south down to Acapulco, north up to Prudhoe Bay on the Beaufort Sea and east to Bahamas. In to airplanes, he also enjoys flying gliders and used to be a tow pilot.
When he is not busy flying, Thomas is an executive in the semiconductor industry.

Join SCFC in welcoming CFI Thomas Daniel to share the story of his 6,000 nm round-trip cross-country flight from San Carlos to Miami, Florida and the Bahamas.  The adventure spanned 3 weeks and 40 hours of flight time.  We’ll hear about his planning, and what happened on the trip that wasn’t planned for, including an in-flight emergency.  If you are considering taking a long flight across the US, you won’t want to miss out on this presentation.
