October 17 (Sat) 12:00pm Max Performance Helicopter - A Review of Performance Limitations in Helicopter Operations

Event Date:
Saturday, October 17, 2015 - 12:00pm to 2:00pm

Every aircraft comes with performance capabilities and limitations.  Operate within the performance limitations and you have a great flight.  Operate beyond the limitations of the aircraft and you can damage the aircraft, the human occupants, and people on the ground.  It’s critical that helicopter pilots understand the performance limitations that apply to helicopters in flight.

Join SCFC Helicopter CFI Ryan Williams for a discussion of the performance limitations that limit helicopter flight operations.  He will discuss the environmental factors that limit available engine power, and show which flight operations are most affected by limited power.  Private pilots are expected to demonstrate an understand of what the limitations are, and show they can operate the aircraft safely right at the maximum performance capability in takeoff.  They must also show they could land safely even when engine power is below that required to hover.  Finally, he’ll discuss how wind conditions have a significant impact on the safe operation of helicopters operating in a hover or near the ground.
