March 12 (Sat) 12:00pm Transition to Helicopter

Event Date:
Saturday, March 12, 2016 - 12:00pm to 2:00pm

SCFC is proud to have the only helicopter training program at San Carlos Airport. Rotorcraft flying is amazing in a different way than fixed wing aircraft, and we get a lot of questions from airplane pilots about what is involved in adding on a Rotorcraft Helicopter rating.

Join us for a discussion of Helicopter Transition Training. We will discuss:

  • What is Rotorcraft? What is a helicopter?
  • What can you do with a helicopter that you can't do in an airplane? In general, and in the Bay Area?
  • Reasons people give for wanting to fly helicopters, including the technical challenge and the chance to experience hovering.
  • Who should not or maybe cannot fly helicopters? (e.g. weight limits)
  • Rough outline of what a transition program looks like, what's involved, training steps, very rough costs.
  • Things a fixed wing pilot will have to unlearn.
  • How to get started.
  • Career opportunities for helicopter pilots.
