Mar 17 (Sat) 12:00pm Los Angeles Airspace by Gyrocopter

Event Date:
Saturday, March 17, 2018 - 12:00pm

If you have considered flying yourself to Los Angeles, you may have felt a bit intimidated when you first looked over the Los Angeles Sectional and TAC charts. What is the best way to navigate through this airspace? At first It may seem more complicated than our home airspace in the San Francisco.

Flying IFR is easy because you are cleared along a specific route but VFR navigation is much more of a challenge.  Awareness of airspace and VFR routes are mandatory. Paul Hollingworth recently did it in a gyrocopter.  No IFR clearance there.

Paul will discuss and analyze the airways, overlapping airspace, and suggested VFR flyways that make up the Los Angeles terminal area. He will discuss various ways you can safely and confidently arrive at your destination. This type of ground briefing is a must for anyone planning to make a trip into the Los Angeles area.

This will be an exciting and informative safety seminar for both helicopter and fixed wing pilots alike, especially focusing on VFR pilots.  Don’t miss this opportunity to push your skills and take on the challenge and thrills of LA.

Paul Hollingworth learned to fly in 1993 on fixed-wing aircraft but switched to weight-shift trikes and flew them for 10 years. He discovered gyros in 2015 and started learning about them. The key was realizing how gyros could offer the benefits of low and slow open-cockpit flying, but with the added benefits of immunity to turbulence and the safety of short landing rolls.
