June 5 (Wed) 7pm - FLAG: Pilots N Paws

Event Date:
Wednesday, June 5, 2019 - 7:00pm

Pilots N Paws is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that connects volunteers engaged in rescuing, sheltering, and adopting animals. Volunteer pilots and plane owners assist with animal transportation (a.k.a. "Freedom Flights") and coordinate with volunteers on the ground to get rescue animals to appropriate shelters, foster homes, adoptive families, and sometimes specialized veterinary care.

This seminar, appropriate for both newer and more experienced pilots, will provide information on Pilots N Paws as well as best practices for public benefit flying - safety considerations, tips for coordinating with ground volunteers, and how to keep "furry passengers" comfortable.

Ashley Carroll, AGI and Commercial Pilot, and Sarah Sobczak, Instrument-rated Private Pilot, will share their experiences conducting Freedom Flights. Learn how to use the Pilots N Paws website and safely conduct rewarding Freedom Flights.

A Pilots N Paws flight would be the perfect way to make use of the San Carlos Flight Center charitable flight benefits to enrich our community.

Ashley Carroll is an Advanced Ground Instructor who teaches private pilot, commercial pilot, and flight instructor students at Advantage Aviation (at KPAO). She is actively working on a CFI certificate. She holds a Commercial Pilot certificate with an instrument rating, has about 350 hours, and has transported 15 dogs with Pilots n Paws. You can usually find her in a C172, but her favorite animal transport plane is a Bonanza G36.

Sarah Sobczak is a newly Instrument Rated Private Pilot who flies primarily out of KSQL. She is currently working on her commercial license, and will be pursuing her CFI afterwards. Sarah has about 250 hours in Piper Cherokees and C172s, but her favorite airplane to fly is her Dad’s T-34 Mentor. She has flown only a handful of Pilots n Paws missions to date, but plans to do as many as she can over the summer months.

San Carlos Flight Center (SCFC) is the SF Bay area’s most dynamic flying club, committed to building general aviation thought safety, community, and adventure.  AOPA has consistently recognized SCFC in their Best Flight School survey, most recently in 2018 as the best flight school in the West.

SCFC is committed to promoting safety in general aviation through our regular safety seminar and guest speaker programs.  Space is often limited so it is important to sign up early.  SCFC members may choose to watch the seminar live over the web at home, or recorded at a later date.  Contact a SCFC member service rep at (650) 946-1700 for more information about online access.
