June 23 (Sat) 12:00pm Overcoming Your Fear of Landing

Event Date:
Saturday, June 23, 2018 - 12:00pm

Why is landing so terrifying for some pilots?  For many long-time pilots, it’s hard for us to remember the challenge of learning this complicated skill.  Now it comes easily to us, and we may no longer be able to see it as a challenge. It’s one of those things in life that looks completely different once you’ve done it, like climbing a mountain, running a marathon, or starting a new business.

CFI Dan Dyer has spent the last 14 years watching students learn to land and has almost seen it all.  He often presents tips that help people improve their approaches and landings, one technique at a time.  "One of the greatest parts about being a CFI is I get to be in the cockpit when the student does his or her first beautiful landing.  Seeing it dawn on them that they made it, that this is something they can control, is really special.” says Dyer.

What is holding you back?  Is it fear? Great, because that is something we can pull apart and understand and conquer.  If you are struggling with learning to land, or just want to hear some refreshing approaches to landing, join us for this inspirational presentation.

Dan Dyer is Chief Pilot of San Carlos Flight Center and has been instructing for 14 years, first in helicopter and now in airplanes. He has almost 4,000 flight hours and is the Bay Area's local expert in crosswind landing instruction. He is known for finding simple and innovative ways to explain complex topics and regularly speaks on advanced ground school topics.  He co-founded and manages the Bay Area FlyOutGroup - a social club of over 400 pilots that meet for lunches, dinners, and other fun aerial adventures.
