January 11 (Mon) 3:00pm CFI Round-Table: The new Airman Certification Standards (ACS)

Event Date:
Monday, January 11, 2016 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Newer is better, right? Will the new ACS completely change your flight training for your students? What does a CFI need to know about the latest changes to flight training?

The ACS, Airman Certification Standard, builds off the approach incorporated in the PTS which explicitly defines the performance metrics for each flight proficiency element listed in 14 CFR part 61 and applies that to a unifying document that covers not only the practical test elements but the knowledge test elements. The ACS incorporates and supersedes the PTS.

The newly developed ACS enhances airman testing by defining the specific elements of aeronautical knowledge, skill and risk management needed to support each task in the Areas of Operation. By presenting the elements of knowledge, skill, and risk management in the integrated ACS format, the ACS approach better serves the applicant, the instructor, and the evaluator. In addition, the ACS approach will enable the FAA to create and maintain a clear link among the regulations, knowledge/skill performance standards, guidance, and test materials.

This CFI Round-Table session is part of our standard monthly CFI Round-Table series, in which we invite flight instructors from around the Bay Area to share tips and ideas with their colleagues. All CFIs are invited to participate.
