August 8 (Wed) 7:00pm Void If Not Off By- IFR from Non-Towered Airports

Event Date:
Wednesday, August 8, 2018 - 7:00pm

At a towered airport, getting your IFR clearance is no problem.  Contact Clearance Delivery for your IFR clearance, talk with ground for taxi, tower for takeoff, and then connect to Departure or Center.  You are now nestled into the protected space made for your airplane on your IFR flight. Pretty straightforward.

But what if there is no operating tower?  You know there are procedures, but do you remember them all, and if so, are you proficient?  And if you are on top of your game, do you know all the pro tips? Capt Ben Taber has 15,000 hours in the system and will review and discuss tips on how  you get from the ground to the enroute system safely, who you call, when you should depart VFR and pick up the IFR clearance aloft and what procedure protects you and your passengers in the time prior to receiving full ATC radar services, just to name a few.

Bring your questions because Ben has been there. And if you’re a VFR pilot, that’s ok too.  These procedures can only help you plan a safe departure.

Capt. Bennett Taber is a check airman and training captain with over 20 years and 15,000 hours of air charter experience throughout the western United States. His first 500 hours of flying were conducted in Alaska. Captain Taber manages flight operations and charter sales for Dreamline Aviation in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a Dreamline Training Captain in Beech King Air aircraft.
