August 25 (Sat) 12:00pm The San Carlos Flight Center FOG Colorado Mountain Trip Recap

Event Date:
Saturday, August 25, 2018 - 12:00pm

The Flyout Group (FOG) is back from the Colorado Rocky Mountains where they flew to the highest elevation airport in the US, Leadville-Lake County Airport Colorado at 9,927 MSL, to the lowest elevation airport in the US, Furnace Creek Airport, Death Valley California at (minus) 210 MSL, as well as everywhere in between. Just imagine the difference in density altitudes.  How about the difference in terrain - mountain to desert? Or about weather - mountain to desert and the difference between morning and afternoon?

This 5 day trip, launching from San Carlos California, to the Rockies is one of the best learning opportunities for a pilot. Just imagine all the experience of flying all types of terrain and conditions.

If you were unable to attend, you can still take advantage of the experiences and learnings from this amazing trip as Dan Dyer, Chief Pilot of SCFC, and some members of this event, will share their knowledge gained for mountain flying, high and low density operations, weather patterns in the mountains and high desert, aeromedical factors for long cross country flying and best of all the comradery they developed.

This will be a fun seminar with many interesting stories to be told.

Dan Dyer is Chief Pilot of San Carlos Flight Center and has been instructing for 14 years, first in helicopter and now in airplanes. He has over 4,000 flight hours and is the Bay Area's local expert in crosswind landing instruction. He is known for finding simple and innovative ways to explain complex topics and regularly speaks on advanced ground school topics.  He co-founded and manages the Bay Area FlyOutGroup - a social club of over 400 pilots that meet for lunches, dinners, and other fun aerial adventures.
