August 14 (Wed) 7pm - Destination: Shelter Cove

Event Date:
Wednesday, August 14, 2019 - 7:00pm

Shelter Cove, CA, a small fishing community on California's “Lost Coast,” is the most undeveloped and remote portion of the California coast. The one-runway Shelter Cove Airport 0Q5 is located at the center of Shelter Cove's commercial district, where visitors will find restaurants, shops, and access to other local attractions.

This medium cross-country flight from the Bay Area involves some planning to select a good route and remain clear of special use airspace. Come review the cross-country planning details with San Carlos Flight Center’s Assistant Chief Pilot Herb Patten and pilot Amanda Chan. They will share their experience of flying to Shelter Cove and give you cross country tips.

If you are interested in flying to Shelter Cove with FlyOutGroup, or want to fly there yourself for a weekend getaway, don’t miss this seminar.

Herb Patten is the Assistant Chief Pilot at the San Carlos Flight Center, a CFI and an FAA certificated advanced and instrument ground instructor who teaches private pilot ground school at San Carlos Flight Center. He is a commercial pilot with an instrument rating, has over 1,500 hours and flown into at least 120 different California airports. He is co-founder of the Bay Area Student and New Pilot Support Group, and a board member of the Upwind Foundation, famous for its Upwind Summer Scholarship Program. In 2015, Herb was named a Master Instructor by the National Association of Flight Instructors.

Amanda Chan, a software product manager for a Fortune 500 company, started flying in 2014 and earned her ASEL private pilot certificate in 2017. She has over 350 flight hours and recently completed training for a high-performance endorsement.
