FlyOutGroup (FOG) 4th of July Camping Trip
Columbia Airport (O22)
July 4-5, 2014

If you haven’t experienced 4th of July in Columbia, you’re in for a treat. Join your FOG friends for an overnight camping trip and a good old-fashioned 4th of July parade.

The town of Columbia pulls out all the stops each year to celebrate Independence Day in the most decadent way. The festivities start at noon with a parade up Main Street, a tradition that dates all the way back to 1852. You won’t believe the costumes and throwbacks to old-time Americana! After the parade, dance in the street to a brass & reed band, indulge in a tri-tip BBQ dinner, or participate in one of the contests like greased pole climbing, nail pounding, or pie eating.

Camping at Columbia Airport is great. The campground is only accessible from the airport grounds, so it’s rarely crowded. It’s located next to the grass strip – after landing, taxi across the paved runway onto the dirt taxiway and park next to the campground. There are showers & toilets that are usually pretty clean. And last we knew you could buy bags of ice from the airport office (call to confirm.)

Plan to arrive by 10:00am to set up your camp site in the daylight, then spend the day enjoying the festivities around Main Street. There are a couple of bars and restaurants that stay open for dinner and have live music.

Plan your return on Saturday morning to get lunch at SCFC’s monthly BBQ at 1:00pm before heading home to unpack and sort through the loads of photos you’re sure to shoot.

Reserve your favorite airplane, then sign up below to be kept in the loop with more info and details. The event fee includes overnight tiedown fee and breakfast on Saturday.
