May 31 (Wed) 7:00pm Water Water Everywhere What if I Have To Ditch

Event Date:
Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 7:00pm

“It's almost unimaginable that I'm sinking, but the rush of water into the cockpit is indisputable. In seconds, it boils up over my waist, and the surface slants at a crazy angle as the fuselage rolls. If the jarring impact wasn't disorienting enough, the shock of the cold water completes the job. I suck in my last breath of air, take stock of the situation, and fight down the swell of fright that rises up from my gut.”

Frightening? It should be, but we can prepare.  Like the rest of our flying, training for the unexpected minimizes the emotion and enhances our survival. The key to a successful outcome is knowing what to expect and what to do.

Join Dave Kramer who will discuss some thoughts about ditching and guide you to resources available for this serious situation. Dave is an instrument rated, tailwheel endorsed private pilot as well as a basic and instrument ground instructor with an interest in weather. He has been flying since 2012, has over 800 hours of which 300 have been in the IFR system.  He also enjoys flying at night  as well as flying in the LA area.

This event qualifies for FAA Wings credit.
